Before you buy, compare these two leading Swim Spa brands.
Like any other significant investment, your new Fitness System (a.k.a. Swim Spa) deserves careful consideration. Before making a purchase, you’ll want to be sure you’re getting the most of your investment. You need the right swim spa to fit your home and lifestyle and this article is going to help you by providing an in-depth comparison of two leading swim spa brands – Endless Pools® Fitness Systems and Michael Phelps Signature Swim Spas™.
About Endless Pools® Fitness Systems
More than thirty years ago, Endless Pools pioneered a new technology that made it easier and more enjoyable to swim-at-home. The Endless Pools swim machine was the first of its kind; creating a powerful, laminar and variable current that simulates an open-water swim in a compact space.
Endless Pools has eight models in their line of high-quality performance products intended for swimming at home and aquatic fitness. Premium models (E2000, E700, E550 and E500) use the Endless Pools Swim Machine to generate a powerful, laminar, and variable current. While the term “swim spa” is often used, it’s more accurate to refer to the product as a “Fitness System” since it’s so much more than a traditional hot tub. A Fitness System has premium options for swimming, running, walking, resistance training, recreation and relaxation – all in one.
About Michael Phelps Signature Swim Spas™
Michael Phelps Signature Swim Spas (5 models) produces a swim current so that you can swim, jog, walk, or exercise in water without the stress gravity has on your body. Massaging spa jets relieve the tension and pain that may have accumulated throughout your day. The water temperature is always perfect, because you choose it year-round.
Endless Pools Fitness Systems and Michael Phelps Signature Swim Spas both use a propulsion system swim current generator. The system moves more water than a swim jet, without the addition of air to create resistance. The Endless Pools Swim Machine produces up to 5,000 gallons of water flow per minute, compared to the 500 gallons/minute in the Michael Phelps units.
Endless Pools Fitness Systems (E2000, E700, E550, E500) – These models use a custom-made, hydraulically-powered propulsion system that creates a laminar current of up to 5,000 gallons per minute. Water is pulled into the Endless Pools swim machine, where it is moved through an upward facing propeller. This unique positioning gives the water more time to settle down. Multiple conditioning grills then smooth and redirect the water. Finally, the flow is pushed out a honeycomb grate, which breaks up any remaining turbulence. The result is a swim current that is free of turbulence and is wider than your body and deeper than your stroke. Even at full power, it feels like swimming in open water. All models require 60 amp service, which is capable of powering the swim machine and treadmill, concurrently.
Michael Phelps Signature Swim Spas– the patent pending Wave Propulsion® Technology System delivers a deep and wide current of pure water flow with virtually no turbulence. The unique propeller design of the Wave Propulsion® System does not require air to be introduced into the water to increase its strength. This allows for a more realistic swimming experience with less turbulence and the ability to swim any stroke you want.
- Wave Propulsion (standard)
Standard on most Michael Phelps Swim Spas by Master Spas, the Wave Propulsion system produces almost 500 gallons of water flow per minute.
- Wave XP Propulsion (optional upgrade)
Optional on most models but standard on the MP Signature™, the Wave XP Propulsion system generates up to almost 1,500 gallons of water flow per minute and is ideal for anyone with a desire to train or use the swim spa as the centerpiece of their swimming routine.
- Wave XP Pro Propulsion (optional upgrade on select models)
Optional on only the MP Signature™ model, the Wave XP Pro requires 100 amp service and generates almost 2,000 gallons of water flow per minute. The Wave XP Pro system is ideal for those in serious training mode.
Endless Pools® Fitness Systems – The optional Endless Pools hydraulically powered underwater treadmill offers low-impact run, walk and exercise options. By using the the swim current concurrently with the treadmill, the flow increases resistance against core, leg, and upper body muscle groups. The treadmill has a speed range of 0.5 to 5.5 MPH.
Michael Phelps Signature Swim Spas – Underwater treadmill not available.

It changes the speed of the water current at timed increments while user is swimming or exercising, to range from high-impact training conditions to slow cool-down speeds. Water speeds range from 0-100.
Users can design custom workouts, and the app also features preprogrammed workouts at beginner, intermediate and advanced levels. Choosing your ideal Fitness System/Swim Spa
Comparing specifications is a good start in your ideal Fitness System selection, but it can’t give you the complete picture. The best next step is to visit your nearest dealer showroom to take a test swim and schedule a free backyard consultation before making a decision. Your local dealer can guide you from purchase through installation, so that it all goes “swimmingly.”
